| "I have followed Mark's work
over the past couple years and as a fellow Athletic Preparation
Specialist can honestly say his methods are absolutely
top notch. In his audio, 'Functional Training
Paradigms,' he hits the nail on the head
in his analysis of the Functional Training trend. By listening
closely you'll hear Mark explain how these movements can actually
cause dysfunction and improper recruitment patterns and how
most people are not even physically able to perform them with
proper form let alone effectively or efficiently for that matter.
I agree with Mark 100% as he explains these movements may
have a place in the preparation for some and are on the training
continuum but we really must ask if doing them will cause
any type of transfer to the sport or will contribute to the
result you desire in the first place. In the end I have found
those jumping on the functional training bandwagon and on
a swiss ball, bosu ball, etc. in every workout are the same
trainers who have missed out on learning the basics and are
unsure and unable to prepare their clients in such a way to
increase their strength, speed, flexibility, and endurance
effectively.
Rest
assured, Mark's methods work and there is
reasoning behind them!" |

| I found the audio very informative
and you touch on a lot of issues that the fitness industry
is falling into yet not exactly knowing what or why they are
doing it. By this, I mean that trainers are using all these
dyna-disc, swiss balls, wobble boards and they do not know
when and when not to apply this equipment in their exercise
programs.
I also like the fact that you touch on what functional training
is. A lot of trainers do not know what functional training
is about, except for what they read in those shelf magazines.
Like the example that you used about squatting, great example.
I too was guilty of improper application and progressions
with these tools.
Your
audio tape certainly helped fine tune my approach to
functional training! Thank you Mark! |
